Get out of the DIP in a DAY
Is my middle or high schooler in “The Dip”?
Look for these 4 things to know:- 6-8 weeks into the semester parents notice that things are falling apart.
- A mountain of missing work, zeroes, incompletes and late work emerges.
- Grades take a nosedive.
- Your child procrastinates & resists taking action that would get results, and you’re at your wit’s end.
- This will not fix itself.
- Lecturing, nagging, yelling, long discussions, logic and reason won’t fix it.
- Punishments won’t fix it.
- Using rewards to motivate your child won’t fix it.
IT’S NOT ABOUT TRYING HARDER.
IT’S ABOUT EXECUTIVE FUNCTION.
Then what works Seth?- First you have to get real buy-in from your child.
- Next, we must address Executive Function challenges properly:
- These kids need the RIGHT executive function skills.
- These kids need the RIGHT systems.
- These kids need the RIGHT mindsets that help them overcome their own resistance and avoidance.
- These kids need the RIGHT habits and routines.
- Overhaul first
- You are involved parents who are willing and able to take time and energy with your child for this intensive and productive day dedicated to turning it around.
- Your child has bought into the idea and wants to do this with you (of course there will be resistance, but they have to be in a place where they have some desire to work on this)
- You are parents who are able to be patient, compassionate, understanding during this process because too much pressure will not work.
- Open-minded and are willing to accept that they misunderstand EF.
- Parents are willing and able to put forth extraordinary effort and time as a team.
- What: An intensive daylong workshop taking the actions necessary to get out of the dip and finish the semester more successfully.
- When: Saturday, March 7th, block out your entire day
- Where: I host it online via Zoom webinar.
- Who: The child and parents attend together.
- Sign up with the link below.
- I email you the special links so you can join us live on March 7th.
- Block out the entire day on your calendar.
- Show up online and I will walk you step by step through the entire process, WHILE positively addressing the resistance your child will experience throughout this entire process.
- By the end of this day, you will all be pretty tired, but this is good because you will have taken the actions to get out of The DIP and you will have built a better relationship with your child and you will have tools to address these problems in the future.
- Turn off electronics
- An hour before we start, you and your child eat a good breakfast together and do NOT talk about school or anything stressful. Take this time to CONNECT and try to enjoy spending quality with each other. Use the Breakfast PDF if you want for conversation starters that build connection and relationship. Paretns share your intention and gratitude homework.
- 10:00 am MST, Zoom Session 1/3 – Assessment: First we need to get crystal clear on what’s working and what’s not, so I’ll take you through The DIP assessment which will give us a complete and detailed picture of your specific situation.
- 11:00 am MST – Go out to the store to get any materials you need after the assessment. Eat lunch together, connect, use the Lunch Conversation PDF and be ready for session 2.
- 1:00 pm MST Zoom Session 2/3 Massive Action: Now we will begin plowing through several of the actions we need to take
- 2:00 pm MST Action Break: Finish taking action until everythign is done, then take a break, take a walk together, heart to heart, move.
- 3:00 pm Zoom Session 3/3
- 4:00 pm Action, finish up, teh final push.
- After finishing, fantastic dinner NOT talking about school unless your child wants to
- 1 week later; Watch or listen to the replays because you will hear nuances you completely missed the first time and it will reinforce everything I taught you so you can be certain you have everything in place.
- 1 month after:
- the daylong transformative experience where I tell you exactly what actions to take.
- the recordings.
- workbook to keep you on track.
