What’s up? It’s me, Seth from SethPerler.com.
I’m an executive function and 2E coach based out of Boulder, Colorado, and I help students figure out how to navigate this thing called education.
I just wanted to make a little video for you. It’s 6:55 p.m. on December 31, 2018, and 2018 is almost over.
I’m cooking some dinner here, and honestly, I’m ready for 2018 to be over. I’m ready to start 2019.
I’m very grateful for my life and for everything that’s happened in 2018, but I’m also ready to turn the page and begin a new year.
I don’t really have any big New Year’s resolutions. For me, I simply want to be more present with the things that matter most—human beings, the people I care about, my family, my friends, the people I work with, and my mission and purpose, which is helping students have great lives.
I also wanted to say thank you to you—my audience.
We’re up to about 10,000 followers now, and 10,000 people following a blog about helping outside-the-box kids who struggle in school is a lot of people.
If there’s one thing that has become incredibly clear to me over the eight or nine years that I’ve been doing this blog, vlog, and this work, it’s that there is a real need.
You are not alone.
You are not crazy.
The concerns you have for your child, the hopes you have for your child, the wishes and dreams you have for your child—so many other people are going through the same things.
So hang in there as we move into this new spring semester.
Again, I want to say that I am truly grateful for you—my viewers, followers, readers, parents, and teachers.
It is such a gift and a blessing for me to be able to do this work.
I get emails and feedback from people all the time, and it’s amazing to see how these ideas are making a difference. It’s incredible to watch parents and teachers take action to positively influence the futures of the young people they work with.
I’m truly grateful to be a part of that process.
I also wanted to share my wish for you as we enter 2019.
Of course, I hope your child gets good grades, feels successful in school, and experiences academic growth.
But to me, what it’s really all about is healthy and secure attachment. It’s about healthy relationships.
My wish for you in 2019 is that you have a tremendous amount of quality time with your child.
My wish for your child is that they have meaningful quality time with you, with their teachers, with their friends, and with the people and activities that matter most to them.
For me, life is ultimately about relationships.
So my wish for you is that you stay focused on what is most important—these incredible relationships.
I hope you navigate the messy moments in relationships well, because all of our closest relationships get messy sometimes.
I hope you’re able to move through those difficult times in healthy ways.
I hope you’re able to let go of relationships that simply cannot move in healthy directions.
I hope you’re able to set healthy boundaries for yourself so that you can create more space and more time for the people who truly enrich your life.
I hope you’re able to spend more energy lifting up the people you care about and enriching their lives as well.
So my wish for you is a 2019 filled with wonderful relationship experiences, meaningful connections, and people you genuinely care about.
Most of all, I wish for your year to be filled with love.
With that, Happy New Year and Happy 2019.
I’m excited to keep moving forward, and I hope you have a fantastic evening.
