Parent Testimonial: Justine and Trey

Hi, my name is Justine, and I have a son named Trey.

Trey works with Seth Perler, and I am so thankful to have Seth in our lives. He has helped my son tremendously.

Trey has always been a kid who didn’t like school, mainly because he struggled there. He often felt like he didn’t fit in, and once he reached sixth grade, things became much harder. His challenges intensified, and things went downhill very quickly.

That’s when I found Seth.

Trey started working with him during the second semester, and it completely turned his world around.

I think it was the first time Trey ever felt truly understood.

Seth really “got” him.

Because Seth has been in Trey’s shoes himself, Trey immediately connected with him and trusted him. He knew Seth understood what he was going through because Seth had lived it.

Support for Parents Too

As a parent, I also found Seth incredibly helpful.

The way he communicates with me and my husband about where Trey is coming from—and why he’s doing certain things—is so beneficial.

As parents, we often ask ourselves questions like:

• Why isn’t he doing this?

• Why is he struggling?

• Why can’t he seem to get started?

You’re constantly trying to help, but sometimes it’s hard to understand what’s really happening.

Seth helps us understand our son better.

A Safe and Trusting Relationship

One of the most important things Seth has done is build a trusting relationship with Trey.

Trey feels safe with him.

Because of that, he has a space where he can learn the skills and strategies Seth teaches without feeling judged or pressured.

That sense of trust has made a huge difference.

A Major Shift in Mindset

One of my favorite moments came toward the end of the semester.

Trey said:

“I’m going to stick it to the teachers by showing them that I can ace everything.”

That was such a dramatic shift from where he had been before.

Previously, he was unhappy and discouraged, so he simply wasn’t doing the work.

Now he wanted to prove to himself—and to others—that he could succeed.

That change in attitude was incredible to see.

Final Thoughts

We are very thankful to have Seth in our lives.

The difference he’s made for Trey and for our family has been tremendous.
